History of TimJan:

TimJan has a rich family history dating back to the 1960s. It all began with Hendrik Jacobus Pollard, the grandfather of the current owner of Traditional TimJan “Wonder Juice.” Hendrik first created and manufactured TimJan in Springbok as a traditional remedy for his friends, addressing ailments such as high blood pressure, kidney stones, arterial issues, sinus problems, and aiding in blood and digestive system cleansing. At the time, Hendrik was a director in the transport industry but later became a bank manager in Springbok, eventually moving to a larger branch in Humansdorp in the Eastern Cape in the 1970s.

In Humansdorp, Hendrik continued working at the bank for a while before purchasing Haskings Bottle Store. This store was one of the first licensed bottle stores in South Africa that didn’t require a hotel license to sell alcohol to the public. Recognizing an opportunity, Hendrik began commercializing his traditional “Wonder Juice,” which contained an alcohol base, and started selling it at the bottle store. The remedy quickly gained popularity as word of its benefits spread through Humansdorp.

Due to the growing demand, Hendrik’s son, Tim Pollard, joined the family business in 1974 to help manage it. The “Wonder Juice” continued to thrive. In 1986, Hendrik Pollard, affectionately known as “Oupa Pollie,” passed away, and the business transitioned to his son, Tim. Seeking additional support, Tim enlisted his friend Jan van Wyngaard, who worked at a bottling plant in the Western Cape, to assist with manufacturing and distribution. Together, they rebranded the product as “TimJan Wonder Juice” and expanded its reach.

In 2003, Hein Jaco Pollard joined his father Tim in the business, overseeing production in the original location of Humansdorp. When Tim Pollard passed away in 2006, Jaco and his sister Lana inherited the family trust, with Jaco appointed as the manager of “TimJan Wonder Juice.” Under Jaco’s leadership, the business continued to grow, and new products such as TimJan Moisturiser and TimJan Capsules were developed.

In 2016, Traditional TimJan Pty Ltd was established after Jaco and Lana agreed that Jaco should continue the family business. Managed by Arie Hollenbach since 2017, the company has upheld the traditional recipes while introducing new “traditional medicines” formulated by pharmacists and traditional healers. In October 2022, Hein Jaco Pollard sold his shares, but the company remains under Arie Hollenbach’s leadership, continuing the legacy of TimJan “Wonder Juice.”
